A semi-competitive athletic program for kids in the 1st-8th grade committed to teaching children fundamental skills, both on and off the playing field, and learning to strive for excellence in all things.
In Birmingham, there is no shortage of athletic programs. We know there are any number of places kids can play sports, but we believe that the exceptional and award winning* quality we have brought to summer day camp, we can also bring to an athletic program that kids will love and parents can trust. We know that each kid who joins our program is unique and different. That is why we seek to make each kid feel valued and part of the team all while helping to take them to the next level as both an athlete and a person.
Our coaching staff is chosen from trusted adults who have an understanding of the game as well as a desire to help encourage, instruct, and impact each and every athlete. More than a winning team, we want to build young athletes who are growing stronger physically and spiritually.
*Camp Straight Street was voted “Best Day Camp” and “Best Overnight Camp” by the readers of the Birmingham Magazine, as well as listed on one of the “7 Best Camps in Alabama.”

What is Straight Street All-Stars?

Straight Street All-Stars is our athletic program run by Camp Straight Street and is a ministry of Shades Mountain Community Church
(formerly Shades Mountain Independent Church).

What athletics do you provide?

We providing a semi-competitive basketball league
for kids in grades 1st-8th in the winter.
In future years, it is our desire to offer additional sports beyond basketball.

What is semi-competitive?

The goal of this athletic program is to provide kids with an environment where they can learn the ins-and-outs of the game (including how to win and lose) and enjoy the thrill of competition, while still making each kid feel like a vital part of the team, regardless of their ability
We keep score, teams have a win-lose record and yet our coaches care more about building excellent athletes, both on and off the playing field, rather than a winning team.

Who is it for?

Straight Street All Stars is for boys and girls in 1st-8th grade and is open to all children regardless of race, color, religion or ethnic background. Please remember that Straight Street All-Stars (and Camp Straight Street) is a ministry of Shades Mountain Community Church and seeks to teach biblical principles to our athletes though the environment of coaching and competing.

When does the season start?

When are practices and games?

Practices are one night a week, either on Mondays or Thursdays and games are Saturday mornings. A full practice and game schedule will be given out ahead of time at the start of the season.

How are the teams divided?

It is our intention to have a 1st-2nd grade league a 3rd-4th grade league a 5th-6th grade league  and finally a 7th-8th grade league. This is subject to change based on the number of kids in the league. Also, be aware that our teams will be co-ed.
